Dr. Nancy’s Holiday Trip

Dr. Nancy just made a mad dash out to Haiti again to deal with final steps in organizing the move. It was several days of intensity and negotiation and requirements to pay a "commission" but we pulled off a better deal that enabled us to use the donation for the house to cover rent, security deposit, a stove with an oven, a fence up on the roof so no little ones will tumble off, screens on all windows to minimize malaria bearing mosquitoes, a new water pump, electrical cables for better service on electricity, new kitchen cabinetry, garden cleanup and fresh paint!

We are working on getting bunk beds and a dining table and chairs. We put the word out on finding a donation from other organizations who are leaving Haiti and it will take a bit of time. Your financial donation can help tremendously as right now, the kids all sleep on little pads that go on the floor.

Happily, Dr. Nancy passed the baton over to Stephanie Ly, another board member who arrived in Haiti on Christmas Day and will be there until after New Year’s. Remember, that board members travel to Haiti at our own expense and the majority of your donations go for direct services. The kids are thrilled and have been moving in yesterday and today as it took a while for all repairs to be completed.
On another note, Joseph, Junior and Eder (Best Friend) of the New American School proudly showed off their trophies for winning the league soccer championship.

We also have a great team of people who live in Haiti including Audrey Jones, an artist who started her own organization that does a number of creative projects for our kids as well as other organizations in the country. She knows our kids well and is helping to settle them in as well as with decor ideas. we are so lucky to have her talents available to us!

Steeve Edouard, our ground liaison, and Bordeau and Tamara who will be the houseparents have also helped in settling in and encouraging the kids.

We have accomplished so much this year. Each time we visit, the kids look healthier and have more confidence. But Dr. Nancy did receive a note from two of our kids who still share only one mat. We need your help in getting bunkbeds and a dining table
so our kids can eat as a family and sleep on a real bed.

Thank you, mèsi!
